On last November 28th, the Horizon Lussier recreational vehicles (RV) caravan left Harlingen Texas to cross the Mexican border toward Las Palmas camping in Matehuala. The border crossing went very well as usual aboard their motorhome and fifth wheel. One little incident, a motorhome got a flat a few miles past the border. It was quickly repaired with the help of ourcaravan Chief, Yvon and with the Angeles Verdes who accompanies us for the ride.
The next day, on November 29th, Horizon Lussier RVers were asked to leave their motorhome and fifth wheel on camping to go visit a mystical place, Real de Catorce.
Real de Catorce was a rich silver mining town of 40,000 souls of the beginning of the last century. Today it is almost deserted, but the charm remaines there. RVers access the town through a 2.5 kilometers tunnel, crossing the old mine shafts, with a spectacular view over the west plains. Its 800 habitants survive today thanks to the old mines and the pilgrims who comes to tribute to the St. Francois d’Assise image in the church of the town. The ancient residences, churches and theaters are witnesses to this prestigious past. Today everything has turned into full of stories and legends ruins.
The next day our caravan, aboard their RVs, left Las Palmas camping for the first step of their last journey before reaching their final destination, a boundocking night in Guadalajara.
Finally, on December 1st, the caravans leave early Guadalajara Pemex to ride in their motorhome and fifth wheel, to El Refugio camping at Lo de Marcos. They spend the rest of the winter to lounging in the hot rays of the Mexican sun in the 5 stars RVs camping-resort complex right on the ocean front. The following El Refugio Camping photos will follow in a few days.
